Student Spotlight

     Junior Jenna Daughtry has overcome many obstacles in life that have molded her into the person she is today.
     When Jenna was eight years old, her mother passed away after being in a car accident. The shock and sadness caused by the tragedy left a permanent mark on Jenna’s family. “It was really hard for all of us,” says Jenna, “she was the kind of mom who kept everything together.”
     Only a few years later Jenna and her family were surprised again when her father suddenly lost his job. Her family fell on extremely hard times. While some may have lost all hope and turned their back on life, Jenna decided to do the exact opposite.
     Out of Jenna’s grief came a new-found desire to help others who were going through hard times. Her past helped her realize that there is no guarantee of tomorrow and every opportunity should be appreciated, not taken for granted.
     Jenna has many goals for the future that are above and beyond that of many people her age. After graduating from high school she plans to attend Trevecca Nazarene University. Though she is not sure what she wants to major in, she knows she would like to help teens. Her dream is to head an organization that works to get inner-city teenagers off of the streets and into a safer environment.
     Despite her past hardships, Jenna has had a happy and fulfilled life. “My life is amazing. I’m surrounded by the best of friends and my awesome family. I know they will always be there for me when I need them.”
     Before becoming a student at Mt. Juliet High School, Jenna attended nine different schools across the United States. She lived in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia and New York before moving to Tennessee. In spite of her constant relocating, Jenna discovered a passion for sports. During her freshman year in high school, she excelled in basketball and volleyball before finding her niche in softball as a catcher and third baseman. Though she does not currently play for Mt. Juliet, she is considering it in the future. Jenna’s other favorite pastimes include acting, singing, and dancing.
     Jenna Daughtry has proven that she is a strong and ambitious girl who has a bright future ahead of her.
