Week 1Wrapup: Eagles 38, Panthers 10
Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley In his first regular season game as Eagles defensive coordinator, Sean McDermott apparently called a pretty solid game. The Eagles had five sacks, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Defensive end Trent Cole was absolutely dominant, and the Panthers didn't have an answer for him. But of course, the game was marred by Donovan McNabb's rib injury midway through the third quarter. He plowed in for a 3-yard touchdown run and then had a Panthers defensive tackle end up on his back. We'll see if the league has anything to say about that, although a penalty was not called. The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting McNabb is "doubtful" for next Sunday's gameagainst the Saints. Coach Andy Reid refused to rule out McNabb for next Sunday. He confirmed that his quarterback has a cracked rib. If McNabb can't go, Kevin Kolb will be the starter. He sort of slopped around Sunday after replacing McNabb and was sacked twice. The encouraging news is that the Saints aren't known for their defense. I think you'll see Reid start to increase Brian Westbrook's carries next week. Westbrook, who's been slowed by a knee injury, looked fine while rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown. But again, the best news is that the defense dominated one of the best rushing teams in the league. DeAngelo Williams is one of the best in the league, and he couldn't get anything done after the first possession. The Eagles also got a huge play on special teams by DeSean Jackson, who returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown. I think he's emerging as one of the most potent offensive weapons in the NFC East -- andthe rest of the conference. We'll keep a close eye on this McNabb situation. With Michael Vick set to be reinstated in Week 3, there will be plenty of drama in Philly.
