The New Face of Freddy Krueger

Haley (without make-up) compared to Englund's original Krueger

The 2010 restart of the Nightmare on Elm Street series finally has it's new face. Many fans were dismayed when Robert Englund, the actor behind the make-up since the first film from 1984 all the way up to 2003's Freddy vs. Jason, stated that he would not return to the role. It was recently announced that Jackie Earle Haley, who recently played Rorshach in Zack Snyder's Watchmen adaptation, will play the famous killer. Kyle Gallner was also confirmed to have a role similar to Johnny Depp's role from the first film. While so far fans have had, unsurprisingly, mixed reactions to news of both a remake and of a re-casting of a classic character, we'll have to wait until April 16, 2010 to see if he can live up to his role.

Sony Starts Work on a Third Ghost Busters Movie

Ghostbusters

The first Ghostbusters was released in 1984, to great praise by audiences and critics. The eminent sequel, Ghostbusters II was released in 1989, also to much success. Ever since, audiences have been begging for a third movie, but it was never realized. Last year, when Ghostbusters: The Video Game was announced, it was said that it could essentially be seen as a third movie, but now it seams that Sony wants to finally continue the classic comedy series.

Columbia Pictures has hired Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (executive produces of hit tv series The Office) to write a script for a third movie. It is said that the movie will reunite the original cast, but no casting deals will be made untill the script is ready.

Disney Releases First Blu-Ray/DVD Bundle

Sleeping Beauty

Blu-Ray allows many advantages over DVD. The picture quality, audio quality, and sheer capacity of the discs trump DVD in every way. The main disadvantages of the format lie in the fact that most people simply do not have a player, or do not have multiple players in one house. With Disney's release of its first 'Classic' animated movie on Blu-Ray, comes another new idea for the format: bundling in the DVD as a bonus. This will allow for those who wish to watch the movie in a room without a player, or at someone else's house to be able to still enjoy the film, albiet with much lower quality. Another advantage is that someone who does not yet own a player can get this set for just $5-10 more than the standard DVD version.

There have not been any announcements of future titles (Disney or other) in which a DVD will be offered. Any future releases will likely be based off of the reaction to this bundle.
