Mick Karn

Mick Karn (07/24/1958) Is best known as the bass
prodigy from the early 80's band Japan. However,
what most don't know is he is also an artist in
his own right. He has been sculpting for nearly
thirty years, since his first sculpture "Satchmo"
(below) in 1978.
Mr. Karn has held many art exhibits for his
sculptures. Including the famous Hamiltons Gallery
in London. A large majority of his sculptures
are abstract versions of the human body. His
sculptures have been described in words from
"Grotesque" to "Deepy Beautiful."
The sculpture above is entitled "The Mask Of
Confidence" (1981). It was actually created
from a plaster mold of his girlfriend at the
time, Yuka Fujii (Photographer). Many fans find
this sculpture to be their favorite.
Mick Karn began sculpting as a hobby to ease the
stress of his music career. He would create
sculptures after his emotions at the time, such as
"Satis Verborum" (Above - 1979) Created from his
frustrations with his music critics.
"A scream of frustration and anger." Is how
Mr. Karn describes this piece.
Mick Karn still creates sculptures today, and now
they are available for purchase. Only three
sculptures still remain from his early days.
